We’re nigh onto 100 days since Donald Trump swore on the Bible, and he already has done enough political damage to give an opening to the downtrodden opposition in Iowa.
As a previous commenter noted, Trump did NOT put his hand on the Bible when he was sworn in. I thought at the time, 'if a Democrat hadn't placed their hand on the Bible, the GOP would STILL be holding hearings about it, and calling for a do-over election.'
I was hoping that the Democrats would win because we offered a solid economic roadmap and treated everyone with respect and dignity. But it looks like the Republicans are going to just burn up whatever capital they had.
I'd prefer two winning teams competing, not a crazy team vs a lazy team.
I just read your brother Jim's new Progressive Populist post before yours, Art, and you both have me quaking in my 81-year-old boots. Thank you both for trying to get the word out that we're in a deep hole and continuing to dig. I feel for my kids' and grandkids' futures, but I’m grateful for the life I've been privileged to live.
Try as we might, there are still, so many MAGA folks out there that will swear life is better when oppression and lies are better than snarky Dems preaching at them. They cannot answer the simple question 'what is truth?'
My prayer is that our democracy will survive until the midterms. One never knows these days with republicans in charge. And,no, this horrible man NEVER put his hand on the Bible. I am sure he knew lightning would strike if he did.
My future hopes are in Iowa. I already pay property taxes and Income tax in Iowa. I still know many folks from my High School Days in Melvin and Sibley.
We are at an inflection point, both for the Democratic Party and for the Individual Independent Farmer. The main thing we know is what we are doing is not working. And continuing to do the same thing over and over again as d expecting different results is called insanity.
I have got to have the glass half full. I remember drinking water from a well that was drilled into a spring that was alway cold and good tasting. Don’t know if we can still do that.
What I do know is we need to be thinking of something that will give us the results that we seek. There is a way. My Grandfather taught me to do the thing that got the best price for the amount that we could produce. We had to do this in Construction over the past fifty years and kept the wheels turning
Preach, brother Art.

He “swore” NEAR the Lincoln Bible, not on it.
Maybe more than a subconscious slip…..
Maybe he thought he'd get shocked if he actually touched it. It might have burned off his rug.
