It’s 6 a.m. I’ve had a strong cup of black coffee, two pieces of toast and a cigarette. There’s the pit-pat of feet and a knock-knock on the bathroom door. “Snookums, are you about done?” She always calls me snookums in the pre-dawn darkness. “Just finishing up a chapter of War and Peace!” I reply. “It’s just getting to the war part.”
I’m a cis old woman and my only concern about bathrooms is that men aren’t always as careful and clean. My husband has described some icky men’s bathrooms in gas stations on our car trips. But that’s a solvable issue.
I am more concerned about the hateful anti-trans rhetoric.
You are wonderful. And it is about cruelty and fear. My beloved state, so welcoming of all in the past! We have lost so much. My fear is next will be cancer patients, stroke victims, left handed people, bird watchers, cat lovers. Makes about as much sense as the ignorance afoot in both legislative and executive floors at the statehouse.
Art, I love your brain! My first reaction to this bill was how 'conservatives’ are flying in the face of the history to which they supposedly cling. In this case, it’s how folks have relieved themselves in this country, from not having a pot to piss in, to 'guzunders', to communal one holers and more. (During the worst of COVID, certain folks avoided even those options when traveling.) Of course, this is just one more instance of 'othering' to create a distraction from additional abominable legislation. It’s quite a balancing act: trying to stay informed and active in Iowa politics, yet trying to maintain one’s sanity. Thank you for realism with humor!
You can bet that if there're any complaints of any violation of this new ban law, it will be against males transing to females rather than females to transing to males. That in and of itself is discrimination and not equal protection under the law.
Thank you, Art.

Thank you for always breaking it down to the basics and making the point that others seem to miss.
Thank you, Art. I’ve seen many a man pee on trees in full view btw. Is that ok?

Art, Judy Corcoran raised a point about what group will be next. Perhaps, some Storm Lake wisdom can be shared on this.
You are BRILLIANT! You make me laugh out loud, then cry, then think, then act. What a gift!
