I cried when I read the Iowa Poll results. Is that hope we see on the horizon?

We still have a sense of shame!

A ray of hope in Iowa-hope that we haven’t really gone to the dark side. Perhaps we don’t really want a president who suggests a firing squad for those who oppose him.

And women won’t be controlled “whether (we) like it or not.”

Several of my Iowa friends sent messages about the poll last night. It was the pick-me-up I definitely needed. We’re feeling pretty good here in MN.

Yes, a shift to the center; as exemplified by unpopular Republican policies, including recent abortion restrictions and private voucher initiatives; pipeline and eminent domain issues have also stirred opposition to our right-tacking, Repub controlled state government. This has played to the advantage of candidates like Ryan Melton, running a strong campaign against Feenstra in the 4th Congressional District. Like Trone Garriott and others, Melton has also reached out to independents and R's and refrained from focusing exclusively on Democratic voters. .

Every October I take a trip from NW Iowa to Branson MO. In 2020 the Trump signs were every mile in rural Iowa. This year those signs were very few and small. I think the tariff talk is the turning point. Also, a high percentage of Iowans are gun owners and Harris has been pretty quiet about any new restrictions.

Despite the poll numbers, I remain CAUTIOUSLY optimistic, but I won’t be cheering yet. I wish I could. I think I’ve been married to a Cubs fan for too long.

Godspeed is right! It is good to hear your view and that it comes from northwest Iowa. We can hope that people do eventually come to a realization that they are vulnerable living life at an extreme. It is just not healthy to live in perpetual fear of the opposite extreme... the "other". May we all relearn to trust our neighbors to the point where we also can begin to consider getting rid of our guns!

Remember, not all guns are for self defense. Iowa has lots of pheasant, waterfowl and deer hunters that contribute greatly to the Iowa economy.

Agree, but what percentage of the Iowa gun owners actually do hunt? And none of the hunters in my family own hand guns or military grade weapons. When I was growing up we felt confident that knocking on a stranger's door for help was a safe thing to do. Hitchhiking was common. Kids biked all over town. Do guns in every house make anyone safer?

What the heck happened? What do we do now?

The Iowa Poll & Selzer I consider one of the GOLD standards of Presidential elections. I was almost giddy when I saw that poll last night! That fits right with what I have been feeling! Love the proof you are filling in Art - you've mentioned the political signs a couple times. The Democratic strategy is working - no changes there = more of the same. And, keep the positive Harris mindset, not a moment of negativity allowed!!!

Or were respondents being cagey? This late change will make a DJT win look like a tsunami. The change in poll responses could spur MAGA turn out ... or give us permission skip the last step, "she's gonna win anyway". Your hopeful message is appreciated. But I'm still afraid.
