I was hiding under the sofa by the time I finished reading your column today, and you didn’t even mention that the toxic water is killing us. I’m going to spend the day looking for things to be grateful for while living in Iowa. I’ll get back to you.
Yes, but I've wondered if some of the orchards planted in California without water might thrive in the South. Right now, they have massive mono-crop forests, which is what is causing trouble in Canada (they cut down diverse forests and mono-crop pine trees) and if there's a bug or infection, massive numbers of trees die creating a fire hazard.
Reynolds' strategy exploits culture war distractions while undermining progressive taxation and democratic norms. Most Iowans lack time to dissect complex policy shifts that effectively transfer tax burdens to the working classes. Trump demonstrated that performative conflict and marginalization can politically energize segments of the electorate, while decades of leadership failure have eroded understanding of fundamental democratic principles.
Some uncomfortable truths:
--Tax policy complexity obscures real economic impacts
--Culture wars provide entertaining political theater
--Civic education has neglected democratic value propositions
Their Hero’s Tariffs on Canada, Mexico. and China will cause suffering for both sides. The Canadian tariff will raise motor fuel prices and hurt farmers who are already struggling. China can further hurt the soybeans and pork markets, as if any Hispanics will be left to do the real work. Joaney Earnstd boasts about castrating hogs . She should stick to barnyard critters and leave her constituents alone. And Grassely is either senile or or bought off or both. This is not the Iowa that I moved away from in the sixties but circumstances are requiring me to move back. I do Politics.
Thank you. I too do politics. I too am stubborn and stick up for what I believe in. This beautiful land in Iowa and the decency and commitment to human and humane values, now buried deep...it's time to exhume.
I wish I could come up with a more eloquent comment than “Holy S*it!” I do not recognize this state anymore. I know this is what a majority of Iowans have voted for since Branstad came back. But at least he kept the crazies in the cage; most of the time. They ran over Kim and she just keeps chasing after them - you know, leading…………………..

But they promised to kill the pipelines’ eminent domain?!?
We certainly seem to be in an irrational period. I don't know how long my human nature can take it.
