You said it all so well-just wish more Iowans and conservatives understood what could happen here.

I read Brave New World six decades ago. Could not imagine that we'd ever get there.

As Randy Newman sang, “It’s a jungle Out There!” We better pay attention. The truth matters. Looks like we need to make sure we know what that is.

I’m 98% Norwegian born in Forest City, Iowa 75 years ago. I have proudly worn my last name as Valdez for 52 years. I am now quite aware that this mass deportation could potentially apply to me and my grown children. According to Vance and Trump, they want the entire country combed of anyone who does not look like them. And I am appalled at the sycophants who follow them. God help us.

My husband always says this country needs to accept the immigrants willingly and joyfully because they will be the ones caring for us in the nursing home when the time comes. Shortly after we moved here (Apple Valley MN), a wonderful Mexican restaurant and bodega opened very near our home. Whenever we are there, we are served with kindness and good humor. It was started by 3 brothers and their wives who had recently moved here from Mexico and I often wonder about other patrons, who are also recipients of the great service and excellent food, and whether they would agree the three families need to be deported whether her legally or illegally.

You nailed it again, Art. This is just the horrifying truth about the way too many Iowans think these days. God help us.

Hopefully will be moot (Harris wins) but remember his immediate response to the "Lock her up!" sentiments after winning in 2016: "I don't want to hurt the Clintons, I really don't. She went through a lot and suffered greatly in many different ways"--and the whole issue immediately disappeared.

My point--campaign hyperbole gets very real, very fast, when faced with the realities which you outline very well.
