The reality of what politics and industrial ag have done to our state devastates this farm kid and life-long Iowa!

Chris Jones talks about addressing the disease where Naing and party are prepared to spend some money on the symptoms. We need Jones elected for a positive future for Iowa.

Thanks for laying this out so well.

Perfectly and succinctly stated on everything. "You would think rational people would..." You surely would. A nagging question is what portion of rational people have given up and chosen to simply escape the right wing Republican desecrated state of Iowa.

Dead on. I'm so tired of crappy politicians ruining my state.

"You cannot continue to cut away at revenues, run up a billion-dollar deficit and keep paying all those teachers, especially when young people flee because this place is backwards and intolerant."

Another blast of bracing reality targeted at readers not enthralled by the snake-handlers, tinfoil hats and cringing Renfields of the Iowa Republican party. They rule smugly in Des Moines/ Washington like Mongol Satraps, enthroned & gnawing on a turkey leg and combing their beards with greasy fingers as they reward or punish their favored supplicants' interests. None of which benefit anyone other than the corporate and sectarian gluttony of plundering vultures, eager to get their snouts in the trough while the legislature is "open for business".

DESPAIR just fouls the air here in the USA and Iowa especially during this "New Golden Age". I'm reminded again of the venerable New Yorker cartoon depicting the two starchy British colonial blokes with pith helmets & extravagent Victorian mustaches up to their necks in quicksand. One of the chaps quips to the other, "dash it all, Smithers, I've got half a mind to struggle." As the great Kurt Vonnegut would snipe, "and so it goes".

THANKS once more for the group therapy your columns provide as we crowd around the glowing heat & light you generate & we can share during this dark hour. This is the first time in my life I've come to believe that I very well might not outlive this horrorshow.

Is there any chance people will begin to wake up and see the emperor has no clothes? Will Democrats nationally awaken and find a voice? Is there an inspirational leader to unite this mess?

The Big System that all the Bigs (GMO seeds, huge machines, mega confinements, markets and marketing, etc.) has left us with will make the needed changes difficult.

The longer we wait the harder it will be.

The farmers continue to think that the local co-op are their friends and wouldn’t steer them wrong, but they have all merged into large companies that just want to sell as much fertilizer and herbicides as possible whether the farmer needs them or not.
